Winter on a farm NOT a Wonderland

Ok- First- Again with the taking multiple months off thing!!! Sorry!
Not that anyone out there except my mother reads this, but hey... at least I feel important :)

Anyway- Winter on a farm is not a wonderland. It (the farm) is a sad pitiful looking place and all the animals seem just as drab as the various shades of brown that covers seemingly everything.

It is now Nov. 26th and we are out of grass. Well, there is grass there... but it's brown and tired and the animals are eating hay now. Which is fine, but expensive. I also got the animals pumpkins from a fantastic nursery down the street. They had purchased them to sell for Halloween and I purchased their "leftovers" for a reduced cost. They are a fantastic group of people and are located right next to the Kubota on 29. I forget the name so I will have to get back to you with that. (wanna bet on the odds of this happening in a timely manner?)

Pumpkins are an excellent feed for animals because they can eat them "fresh" and get diversity in their diet. I like to give everyone a diverse diet around here- who would want to eat the same thing everyday? PLUS the more diverse, the more potential for nutrition. Now that the winter is truly setting in I have had to give in and start giving everyone feed daily along with the hay and pumpkins.

What's new in the zoo...? Well, so much has happened and is happening all the time! I'm so busy I can't get everything done and certainly don't seem to have had the time to keep up with this blog :)
BUT as always I want to change that (I do always hope this will be the case..)
So what do we have TODAY?
2 cows
8 goats
4 sheep (more on the way)
2 turkeys left - Thanksgiving left us with 2, at one time we had 22
40+ ladies (Laying Hens)
20 or so meat birds left
I just had a whole batch of meat birds done so there are only 20 left.
Oh -- and
40+ rabbits
A dog (Athena) &
Cat  (the cat)

I am so tired right now and I have much to do in the morning and I am hating to do this but I am actually drifting off while typing... so again I will say good night and happy farming. I hope to check back in soon. Sorry mom :)
